Record contracts and early hits

In 2017, the Brooklyn-born rapper suddenly rose to fame with his breakout single “Gummo,” which brought him popularity. In October 2019, Tekashi signed a two-album deal with 10K Projects one in English and one in Spanish album. He also signed a $5 million contract with live-streaming firm GlobalStreamNow in July 2020 to perform a virtual concert.

In October 2024, he signed with Kartel Music with $1 million advance on a future album and $250,000 per concert, potentially earning up to 6 million dollars if all milestones were achieved. His deal however collapsed when he violated the conditions of parole and was arrested again.

IRS Troubles and Massive Debt

His IRS debt (more than $8 million dollars) is the rapper’s largest financial obligation. In a recent stream, Tekashi reveal that he had already paid the IRS 3.4 million dollars and still owes close to 6 million dollars. In April 2024, the IRS raided his residence and seized luxury cars, including a Lamborghini Urus and a Bentley Continental sedan, that were later auctioned. He confessed to having bad management of money and lack of knowledge of tax write-offs which ended up leading to the huge financial crisis.

Career and Legal Controversies

His arrest in 2018 greatly affected his earnings and put his career on hold. Other than the IRS hassel, Tekashi has additional millions worth of lawsuits such as a 9.8 million dollar suit filed by an exotic dancer and allegations by his ex-girlfriend. Such constant legal issues have exhausted his finances and damaged his reputation and he is finding it hard to sustain the successful career he once enjoyed.
