Pluribus Episode 4 Shocks Fans: Truth Serum, Heart‑Stopping Twist & A New Survivor!

Pluribus Episode 4: Truth Has A Price

In recent episode 4 of Apple TV+ science fiction drama Pluribus, named “Please, Carol,” it ups the stakes. She decides it’s time to test just how sincere these Others are, since she is immune to their hivemind.

The episode does not begin with Carol, but with Manousos Oviedo, a Paraguayan storage facility manager who is also immune to the Joining. Eating dog meat and old drink packets, he scans radio frequencies and declines the hivemind food deliveries, which becomes a gritty mirror to Carol’s own isolation. This worldwide cutaway establishes a potential future partnership between two extremist survivors called “Others”.

Back home in New Mexico, Carol comes out of the hospital to find the Joined lovingly repairing her house which is still damaged by the grenades. Their kindliness just causes her to feel more suspicious, leading her to write down what she thinks she “knows” about the hivemind and begin to treat the Joining like a case to crack. She injects herself with a classic truth serum, sodium thiopental and records a brutally honest, messy confession that proves the drug works.

When Carol goes to Zosia in the hospital and apologizes, planting the truth serum in her IV to make her answer: Can the Joining be reversed? Zosia remains unable to tell how; she instead collapses into cardiac arrest in the presence of nearby Others, with some of them crying and chanting like a swearing, wailing, or screaming “Please, Carol”, as they experience her pain through the hive mind.

The fourth episode leaves the audience with a chilling-but-game-changing hint: The Joining can be undone, but the hivemind is ready to sacrifice Zosia instead of telling them how. As a new immune survivor on the map, Carol initiates her detective-type investigation. Pluribus manipulates its hivemind apocalypse into a tight, character-focused mystery that seems perfect for sci-fi thriller fans who like deep storytelling full of twists.
