Matlock Season 2 Makes a Grand Return!
This season, Kathy Bates is back in court. The Emmy-nominated legal drama Matlock aired the second season of the long-awaited second season on October 12, 2025, on CBS. The new episodes of the popular series are now available to viewers on Thursdays at 9 PM ET.
In the modern remake by Jennie Snyder Urman, it continues to follow Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a former attorney who was bright and left a reputable New York law firm many years ago, who returns with a hidden motive. The second season continues from where the first season ended, throwing you straight into emotional and legal madness.

The first episode, entitled ‘The Before Times,’ presents a captivating plot. As the team investigates a complicated arson case, Matty doubts the paternity of a man who has claimed he is the father of Alfie. Meanwhile, Olympia fights to save Julian’s role in the Wellbrexa scandal, which is one of the main mysteries of Season 1.
This season gives more insight into the secret mission of how Matty was on to expose corruption within the firm. Executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman hinted that the audience will see “surprises about who gets read into the truth and when”.
A Record-Breaking Success
This was renewed after the success of Season 1, making it the number one new series on CBS with more than 17 million viewers. The season 2 premiere episode itself attracted 7.74 million viewers, the largest number of viewers at a non-post-Super Bowl series premiere since 2019.

The second season’s episodes are broadcast on CBS on Thursdays and available on Paramount+ the next day. The second season will consist of 20 episodes and make sure that fans have enough courtroom drama all throughout the fall and winter.
