Who is Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters?

Rumi is the fearless leader and lead vocalist of HUNTR/X, a K-pop girl group on a secret mission against demons. The peculiarity of her identity is that she is a cambion, half-human/half-demon. Her mother was a legendary K-pop idol who was a demon hunter.
Directed by Maggie Kang, voiced by Arden Cho in English with singing by EJAE, Rumi is between 23 and 24 years old. She is the eldest of HUNTR/X, six months older than Mira Rumi struggles with demonic patterns spreading on her skin as she attempts to maintain her perfect image throughout the film.
Season 2 Confirmed for 2029
This is great news to celebrate that KPop Demon Hunters 2 is currently in its early stages of development. Netflix and Sony are aiming to release it in 2029, 4 years after the initial film was launched. No official trailer has been released so far, but according to industry sources, promotional material will probably appear throughout 2028 to further increase the hype.

Director Maggie Kang and the creative team are ambitious about their upcoming sequel. The newly published art book has already established a significant narrative for the sequel, especially with the mystery of the fate of Rumi’s mother.
Where to watch and How It is Made?
As of now, KPop Demon Hunters is available exclusively on the Netflix platform. The movie was released on June 20, 2025, and it almost immediately became one of the most-viewed animated movies on the platform.
It was produced by Sony Pictures Imageworks, where animation was divided between their Vancouver and Montreal studios. Originally, the team thought of combining 2D animation, but later decided to go with a bold 3D look that was inspired by anime styles. The aesthetic inspiration was based on K-pop music videos, concert lighting, Korean dramas, fashion photography, and editorial shoots. There were creative risks involved in the production of the Honmoon (a protective barrier), and it took nearly a year to perfect it.
