Fox has officially cancelled The Great North, the hilarious animated sitcom that introduced the wilderness of Alaska to animation lovers in a move that has left them reeling. Five rollicking seasons and 97 episodes later, the network canceled it on October 3, 2025. It is bad news for those who have been awaiting the show since it debuted in 2021, following the adorable Tobin family in the strange town of Lone Moose.
The main character was Beef Tobin, a widowed fisherman dad played by the deadpan genius Nick Offerman. He was raising his four children, artistic teenage daughter Judy (Jenny Slate), positive-minded Wolf (Will Forte), punk-rocker Ham (Paul Rust), bear-onesie-clad Moon (Aparna Nancherla), and the wife of his eldest son, Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan) brought new California flair to the frozen frenzy. Program created by the Molyneux sisters, Minty Lewis and the Bobs Burgers genius Loren Bouchard, the show was a heartfelt family drama that spliced absurd Alaskan adventures, such as avoiding wildlife or pursuing dreams under the Northern lights.

So, why end it now? Blame the numbers games. The show, which had become a new ratings sensation with a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating for season one, dropped to the bottom of the Fox comedy pack in its last season, with an average of only 0.56 million viewers. The increase in production costs did not help and Fox is making space for American Dad. So that it can make a big comeback next season. The creators Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux posted a short note saying: “We are so thankful for everything.”
Wait for the next big thing season coming up. Will Hulu swoop in with more Tobin stories and mild laughs with its good buzz of varying stories? Until next time, binge watch those shows and give a cheer to The Great North one last time. What was the best experience you had? Drop it in the comments!
