Black Rabbit is a creation by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman that incorporates the restaurant drama of The Gritty Restaurant drama of The Bear with the shadowy twists of Ozark. Bateman is portrayed as the wildcard brother, with a messy history, who causes all the troubles and endangers everything. The law, the self-composed big brother, struggles to hold the empire on its feet as threats mount up against it – betrayal, covert schemes, and a smattering of NYC’s underworld.
Fans are familiar with Bateman as a filmmaker of hit films such as Ozark, and this time around, Bateman is in the limelight and has a raw and riveting performance. One early viewer tweeted as the movie the perfect storm of tension. Critics? They’re split. And some describe it as “draggy at times,” but it compliments the star power. The New York Times highlights the fact that the real life chemistry of Bateman and Law makes the conflict more intense: they spent months planning their attack together, trading stories over steaks to nail those brotherly barbs.
The short and punchy scenes will keep you stuck in the seat, while the longer, brooding ones will build the suspense. Is it going to be Bateman’s best? Watch it if you need a smart thriller with emotional punch lines. Black Rabbit is now available on Netflix, and it shows that Bateman still has that Midas touch of must-watch TV.
